Hi, I’m Virginia. My pronouns are she/her. I’m a bilingual audio producer/editor/project manager with an unshakable commitment to community-building. Based in Miami, I work in English, Spanish, and everything in between.

I’m interested in stories and projects that center the margins and engage with people and ideas across multiple spectrums. Also, I love stories that involve food, civic engagement, migration experiences, and people who have found their calling.

Born in Lima, Peru, I moved to the U.S. at 13, and grew up in Miami. I got started in audio while traveling all over the country interviewing people from all walks of life and documenting stories of U.S. Latinos. In another lifetime, I wrote grants for a homeless shelter, and conducted intake interviews with unaccompanied minors in immigration detention. Through these seemingly unrelated experiences, I learned to ask questions; developed a knack for intense, engaged listening; and discovered a deep-seated interest in the challenges––and triumphs––of historically marginalized and vulnerable communities. It all came together for me at the Transom Storytelling Workshop while producing my first ever audio narrative piece .

Recently, I worked on a series of stories about how politics intersect with the lives of immigrants in the U.S., and reported on grassroots political organizing in South Florida (my experience was full of professional and personal revelations, which I wrote about here). Two of my all-time favorite projects to work on include a podcast about first-generation Americans trying to have difficult but necessary conversations about topics considered taboo in their families; and a show featuring earnest conversations with Black and Brown professionals looking for ways to to level up.

I’ve also edited narrative episodes for a series about non-traditional college students, acted as showrunner for an interview show about Latino entrepreneurs, and worked on a Spanish-language podcast rooted in sisterhood and the physical, emotional and sexual health of Latinx women.

I’ve done audio work for LWC Studios, Feet in 2 Worlds, PRX’s The World, Latino USA, CityLab’s Technopolis, This American Life, StoryCorps, Crooked Media’s The Wilderness, Writing Class Radio, and other independent shows.

As a lynchpin producer/editor, I easily go from coordinating interviews to cutting narrative episodes to optimizing production workflows. As a self-aware leader, deep listener and enthusiastic Yes And-er; I bring teams together and facilitate environments conducive to the sharing of ideas and experiences.

I’m always open to collaborating on mission-driven projects with inspiring and inspired conspirators, ideally on something that makes us think and laugh.

I graduated from Amherst College with a B.A. in History, French and a certificate in Latin American & Latino Studies. I trained in radio at Transom .
